What do I mean by the female sensibility? I first paid attention to the word in relation to Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen. The movie of course with Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet; directed by Ang Lee. It is akin to the word POV for starters.
Teasing, prolonging, yearning, the building of sexual tension, is more intrinsically female. More women find these types of things erotic than women who do not. I think it is more of the female sensibility to want "romance" in the erotic stories they read or films they watch. Not necessarily referring to sappy- sighing- romantic- sentimental bullshit here. But that is how the term Romance has come to be disparaged. Somehow it is not manly.
There is an enormous variety of erotic novels for women on the market. Some are way into S&M or anal sex. Some have only chaste romance and marriage. So obviously women in our society have very many many levels of what expresses thier sexuality or artistry. However I feel that what I said above basically holds true. If more women were honest with themselves, like I was eventually, one can see that there is nothing inferior or inherently wrong with the feminine or female sensibility. When it comes to not being oriented to jumping in the bed and fucking upon first meeting some one, most women are not really into that, some sure, most not. What is inferior about that?
Then to go beyond that, as an adult I realize that those moments of orgasmic bliss are only fleeting. It is a transcendent experience. It provides the same euphoria as a mood/mind altering drug. In fact Orgasm works very much like a drug. You can certainly get addicted to its feeling.

Chicanery: English language Vocab. word of the week Saw the film Magnolia

Synonyms:
artifice, cheating, chicane, deviousness, dishonesty, dodge, double-crossing, double-dealing, duplicity, feint, fourberie, fraud, furtiveness, gambit, hanky-panky, intrigue, machination, maneuver, plot, ploy, ruse, sharp practice, skullduggery, sophistry, stratagem, subterfuge, surreptitiousness, underhandedness, wiles
Notes: duplicity implies double-dealing while chicanery suggests trickery and wiliness
Antonyms:
forthrightness, honesty, truthfulness
I thought of this word while watching Magnolia d. PT Anderson. The Tom Cruise character Frank TJ Mackay has a plant in his audience of men attending his "workshop." Later in the film we see that the man who asked the question and garnered Frank Mackey 's empathy is an employee of his. I think we could say there was some chicanery involved in his tactics to help these men "Command the cock and Conquer the cunt." If you have seen Magnolia this will make sense. It is definitely a film to watch more than once. But I want to get on to Before the Devil Knows You are Dead as promised. I am trying to see all PSH films. Well not all, but many of them. He had a role in this ensemble piece. He is always believable and he was in this film as well. I will someday transcribe my notes on Magnolia, or ask the questions I want to ask, or see it again!!!

Kirkland Museum, Hugh M. Grant
Congratulations to Hugh Grant!
In late March, Kirkland Museum Founding Director & Curator Hugh Grant was invited to speak at Bard Graduate Center in New York City on the unique display of the Kirkland and the museum's establishment. Graduate students and faculty in Bard's programs of Decorative Arts, Design History, and Material Culture attended his presentation. Bard Graduate Center is a graduate institute affiliated with Bard College that opened in New York City in 1993. It was a great honor to share information about Kirkland Museum with faculty and students from a program closely related to Kirkland Museum's focus. It was exciting to have the Kirkland recognized and lauded for the unusual display methods Hugh Grant has developed including salon style of combining fine and decorative art, a study collection manner, vignette presentation, and comparative display of different design movements within the same room.

Human Condition

Isn't it interesting that as human animals we optimally have a close care giver the first 2-3 years of life. The caregiver was intended by Nature to be the Mother--but if need be, a substitute caregiver will do. One who is nurturing and consistently there 75% of the time is optimal. This substitute caregiver can be any race, religion, gender, color.
Babies don't know their gender until age 3 or 4. It doesn't matter up until then. Both need the SAME care, attnetion, nurturing, consistency to thrive as infants.
Film Essay on Michael Moore's documentaries.

Flaw weakness in Michael Moore's film Sicko:
Health care in England and France is not perfect and MM presents it like it is. I was surprised he showed only the best of what people had to say, including Americans living in France. It was compelling and moving but its too one-sided and therefore unbelievable. My cousin Suzanne had a medical emergency in France and it was all paid for; she was impressed. So I know it is good, but not perfect.
One of the best things about the film was in the outtakes: The old Britsih ww2 guy who was a member of the conservative party? and after the war they decided that, "the best of us will care for the least of us." They have this paradigm already in England, France, Sweden. The tea-baggers are the only ones who believe that very basic health care is a commie takeover.
Flaw weakness in Bowling for Columbine: Not necessary to do that to the old man Charlton Heston and the editing implied something that wasn't true about his appearance at an NRA rally.
Flaw weakness in Farenheilt 911.
The sequence/montage where all the past wars/ military conflict were the "fault" of the US supporting right-wing fascist dictators. This is way too simplistic. It desperately feeds into that stereotype of the far left blaming everything and always on the U.S.
Strength of 911: merciless on Bush but I admire that part. lol I mean he really gets you to squirm with the sequence where GWB is reading the child's book to kindergartners, and he gets the message that NYC is being attacked; he continues to read for 4 something more minutes. MM has a timer clock at the bottom of the screen.
His films go into the category of great for any genre, not just documentary. They are great entertainment because you both laugh and cry and get emotionally involved with the characters.
