Questions for Michael Douglas

Questions for MIchael Douglas:

Did you ever talk with Karl Malden about Brando and Kazan?

Your character was a gender role reversal: in Basic Instinct, Fatal Attraction and Disclosure --the victim of the predatory female, You even shrieked like a woman in BI. We don't see the predatory female that much. ( I would ask Susan Douglas about that.)

Some people, like Kirk Douglas I heard, thought Jack Nicholson was just playing himself and not the character. Some were critical about Jack's much lauded performance--which I thought was untouchable. Jack in coo-coos Nest which I saw when I was about 15. Why didn't Kirk Douglas play the role himself as he planned?

I feel like Mina in 51 Birch Street

My mind wandered a lot. My mind wanders a lot. Particularly on marijuana. Mind seems to speed up and every thought gives birth to a new thought and on and on and on. It's like the world of art and ideas and creating, is so exciting and passion filled. God I sobbed for that woman in 51 Birch Street. She was who the Feminine Mystique was about. She now has minor fame from the film. But she could still get out at night if she were alive. But since she passed this is not an issue, however her son filmmaker Doug Block and the rest of his family do have 15 minutes worth of fame.

Film Theory, War-torn Romance: the core of the human condition.

It's not what it's about---- It is how it's about it. (That is four it's there) So says Roger Ebert about film. the art of film, storytelling. I agree because if is were not true, Filmmakers would not continue to make warfilms, coming of age stories, romances( in their many forms and guises)---Everything would have already been done. .An Going with Roger's philosophy, it's the same reason that film works as a story telling medium--everyone has a story, so there are millions of twists because of the individual personalities and characters of the story. There are that many stories out there---as many as individuals. And the one trait we share is the human condition. Examples: childhood/coming of age. love, lust sex, procreating, fear, pain, mental, physical sexual spiritual pain, disappointment, heartache longing, fear, Humans share all this. Living with these conditions under the larger context of war--and you have your war-torn romance like Atonement also a great HUMAN tragedy that is exemplified and by war. And war exemplifies and personifies on a grand scale. The human condition. Living under war and all the other mentioned human themes---What are the great ones: English Patient, Zhviago, From Here TO eternity, Has to be some European ones. Pearl Harbor with Affleck and Beckinsdale tried to be and sadly was not. Atonement tried to be and succeeded absolute . Atonement is under-rated. The long tracking shot was born out of necessity not showing off. But it made sense to do that long tracking shot there to show the vastness, the panoramic view of the war/beach scene.

The Hurt Locker, Jeremy Renner

OK folks. This blog will serve as my film log now too, as I want to record all the films I see.
The Hurt Locker is fantastic and the lead performance of Jeremy Renner is a stand out. Not surprisingly, he got an Academy Award nomination. However, he doesn't have a chance in hell of winning against Jeff Bridges or Clooney. But he probably is being noticed by producers and directors. I hope so. I am looking forward to seeing him in other roles--especially those with an accent. He looks like he could play a British gangster or something.
